What is Recovery?
Many of us look at recovery as meaning that we forget all about our illnesses and they never affect us again. We can think about them in the back of our heads each day as we pay attention to them to remember what we need to stay well and they may still pop up again. We sometimes believe that recovery means we will never have symptoms or get unwell again; that we will never take medications or need treatment again. We can often forget to recognize that we are capable beings and can make all our own decisions. Our illnesses and symptoms do not control our lives – we have the control! We are productive members of society, we are living to the best of our abilities, and we can live the life we want and deserve!
